Bill Reynolds and George Maddox

Description: Myers collection image of William "Bill" Reynolds (L)  and George W. Maddox (R) taken January 1, 1866 in Lee's Summit, Missouri. On January 20, 1866, Maddox and Reynolds were in Pleasant Hill, Missouri when Reynolds was involved in a street fight with Sheriff Holmes and his deputy James Copeland who were attempting to arrest Reynolds. Reynolds was wounded but killed the Sheriff and his deputy. Reynolds was taken home to his mother's house where is was put in a wagon and returned to town for medical treatment. Reynolds had his head in his mother's lap. Allen Copeland, Deputy James Copeland's brother, walked up to the wagon when it arrived in town and shot Reynolds to death. Maddox was arrested but released as he was not involved in the shootout.
