Description: Image of Arthur McCoy, "The Wild Irishman" in full Confederate uniform. There is no date noted. He was a member of the Liberty Fire Company in St. Louis, Mo. in 1858. He was one of the founding members of the minute men, secessionist organization formed against the Union Wide Awakes. His brother-in-law was Robert Louden (in other images in the Myers collection).  McCoy helped raise the Missouri state flag over the court house. He joined Shelby during the Civil War. He was known as a brave and fierce fighter for the cause.
After the war, he became a member of the James-Younger gang. He is believed to have been involved in the killing of the Pinkerton agent investigating the James boys. He was identified as a member of the gang who pulled off the Russelville, Kentucky bank robbery in 1868, as well as the Adair , Iowa train robbery, and the Gad Hill train robbery. He disappeared in 1874 or 1875 and the family believed he died in Texas in the 1880s. His wife listed herself as a widow in 1880. REF: www.civilwarstlouis.com/history
