Description: Cantey Collection image of the Mineral Hotel, Dr. Cox Proprietor, in Osceola, Missouri PRIOR to the town being burned down by Kansas,Yankee Jayhawkers and Redlegs under Charles Jennison. This hotel was one of the buildings burned. The Jayhawkers burned, murdered, stole and raped, carrying off all they could carry back into Lawrence, Kansas where it was auctioned to the highest bidder. This type of raid into Missouri by the Kansans caused the war between Kansas and Missouri that raged on between 1858-1865.
