Description: Original, Cantey Collection, small cabinet photograph of Burt Alvord taken circa 1880. Burt was both an accomplished lawman and a later outlaw in the 1880-1904 period. He was a deputy sheriff under Sheriff John Slaughter in 1886. In the 1890s,he was a lawman in Fairbank and Pearce, Arizona. In the late 1890s, he formed his own gang with Billy Stiles in Arizona. He was captured in 1899 but escaped. He was captured again in 1900 but again escaped. He was again captured in 1903 but again escaped. He was captured in 1904 and served two years in prison. After release, he went to South America and disappeared.
