Description: This image is from the Cantey collection. It is contemporary identified on the back as "Jesse W. James 1861". It is from the collection of a deceased collector of James and guerrilla images who collected in the 1940-50 period and is unquestionably authentic. This image was taken at the time he was beaten by Yankee Redlegs who were attempting to learn from him where his brother Frank was at that time. Image purchased from major Civil War dealer Rick Mack.
