Description: Myers journal notes that this image was taken in August, 1861 when he was age 38. Also, that he was General Shelby's Physician. He was elected Captain of Company C, 2nd Missouri Cavalry. On January 3, 1863, he was sent to the Springfield hospital to care for wounded Confederate soldiers. He was captured there and exchanged later in the Spring at City Point, Virginia. He then joined the Missouri troops in Mississippi. He was captured at Vicksburg and again exchanged. After that he was Chief surgeon to General Shelby in Shelby's Cavalry Brigade. After the war, he returned to Jackson County, Missouri and died at age 92 in 1915. Winfrey was an exceptional Confederate patriot and doctor.
