Johnson Island (Ohio) prisoners

Description: Exceedingly rare image from the Myers collection. It is a albumen CDV of three Confederate prisoners held at the Johnson Island, Ohio, union prison. It has a union states revenue tax stamp on the back date cancelled in 1863. (L) Lieutenant Ben Morrison(mis-IDed on image as Thad and missing leg w/crutches), (C) Quarter Master William Allison, and (R) Lieutenant William C. Adams. Morrison was captured near Columbia, Missouri on 9/28/1862. Quarter Master Allison was with Col. Jackson, CSA, and served time at St. Louis prison, Alton III and finally Johnson Island. He spent a total of 26 months in prison. Lieutenant Adams was in Company G, 3rd. Missouri Infantry. Captured and wounded many times, he later served under General Hood and Johnson. He became a Missouri legislator after the war and died in 1896.
