Description: Cantey collection image of Quantrill guerrilla Solomon Perry Hoy. This image is cased in a woman memorial brooch with a lock of his hair. It was worn after his death by his sister and came from the Hoy family in the 1940s. He was executed by firing squad at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on July 28, 1862. His death was one of the reasons the guerrillas took up the black flag.
