Description: Myers journal notes that this image was taken April 6, 1862. Shepherd was with Quantrill and was killed in the Spring of 1862 in Jackson County at the Pink Hill bridge. In fact, Mart is very dead here and his friend Hylton has propped his dead body in a chair next to him to be photographed before he was buried. Hylton was with Quantrill and went to Kentucky with him in 1865. He was in the battle when Quantrill was shot. Ref: Jackson, 1881, Branded as Rebels.
