Black Jack Ketchum and Sam Marr
Last Random Picture | Next Random Picture
Description: Original tintype image in the Cantey Collection of Sam Marr (left) and Tom "Black Jack" Ketchum (right). Date unknown. I have not been able to find anything on Sam Marr but he may have been a gang member. Tom Ketchum started out as a cowboy. By 1890 he was an outlaw and killer in New Mexico Territory and Texas. He became a member of the famous Hole-In-The-Wall gang. He was associated with such criminals as Butch Cassidy, Will Carver, Elzy Lay, etc. He was shot and captured in 1899 and hanged in Clayton,  Union County, New Mexico. He was decapitated when his body fell through the trap in a botched execution.
