Richard Burns

Description: Missouri guerrilla and reb, Richard "Dick" Burns. He is wearing a confederate sack coat. The image is journal dated as 1864. Second corporal under Quantrill. Fought at battles of Independence, Lawrence, and Centralia. Went to Kentucky with Quantrill in 1865 and became prisoner after Quantrill was killed. After the War he was suspected of being one of the men who robbed the Liberty Bank on 2/13/1866. Was killed on 11/29/1867 on John G. Deering's farm. It was suspected he was killed by friends of Payne Jones as Burns warned Jim Chiles that Payne Jones wanted to rob Chiles. Ref: BRANDED AS REBELS by Hale/Eakins.
