Last Random Picture | Next Random Picture
Description: The only in life image extant. Rudabaugh joined Dave Mather and Milt Yarberry as cattle rustlers in Arkansas in the 1870s. After that, he became a stagecoach robber in South Dakota. In 1876, he formed a outlaw group called the TRIO which was enlarged into the Rudabaugh-Roark Gang. He was captured January 23, 1878 by Bat Masterson and J.J. Webb in Kansas. He was not prosecuted as he gave states evidence against the rest of the gang and was released. He joined J.J. Webb as a member of the Dodge City Gang in Las Vegas, N.M. in 1879. He killed deputy Antonio Lino Valdez in April, 1880. Pat Garrett captured him with Billy the Kid and Billy Wilson on December 23, 1880. He was convicted and sentenced to 99 years in prison but escaped jail and later joined the Clanton gang against the Earps in Tombstone, Arizona in 1881. He was possibly involved in the killing of Morgan Earp and the wounding of Virgil Earp in Tombstone. After the Clanton gang fell apart, he went to Mexico where he was killed in 1886 in Parral, Mexico for shooting three men in a saloon. His head was cut off and placed on a pole.
