Lydia Stone's image of W.C. Quantrill
Last Random Picture | Next Random Picture
Description: William Clark Quantrill became ill in Lawrence, Kansas in 1860. It is believed that he suffered from yellow fever. He was taken to the home of the local hotel owner, Nathan Stone and nursed by Stone's daughter, Lydia. Upon recovery, Quantrill is documented to have given Lydia a ruby ring and an image of himself.  This image was purchased from the Lydia Stone relatives in 2007. In the back of the case, it is inscribed, "To Lydia from Quantrill 1860". The inscription is in Quantrill's own hand.  This image should be used in the future as a true and documented image of Quantrill's actual features for comparison purposes. Notice Quantrill's dropping eye lids.
